We have been hearing rave reviews over Redmond's Earthpaste. I figured I could find a Bentonite clay toothpaste recipe and work with it to make a recipe we really liked. I, of course, wanted to use my dōTERRA oils because I know I will receive the best benefits from them. Also, one tube of Earthpaste costs $7.99!
Bentonite Clay Toothpaste Using dōTERRA Essential Oils
1/4 cup bentonite clay (I used Redmond brand)
1/2 cup boiling water
1 tablespoon coconut oil
1/4 tsp unrefined fine sea salt.
15-25 drops Stevia
10-12 drops dōTERRA Peppermint Essential Oil
4 drops dōTERRA Melaleuca Essential Oil
Add the boiling water to the clay and the sea salt. Using a mix on low until smooth and creamy.
Add the 4 drops of Melaleuca Oil.
Start by adding half of the Peppermint oil and Stevia. Slowly add it until you have the sweetness and mint flavor you want. I put ours in a wide mouthed small jar.
It doesn't get sudsy and I was anticipating that do be a problem but I liked it!

How long does this last? I've read that once you add water to a "natural" recipe, you have to add a preservative. Not sure what recipes this holds true for. Your thoughts??
ReplyDeleteHum, I'm not sure. The recipes that I combined didn't say anything about that. One said that it will start to dry out and to add a little more water. I would think the Melaleuca and Peppermint would keep things bacteria from growing. I don't know Monica. I'll have to do some more reading.
DeleteThat same thought crossed my mind too, but like I said, I don't really know. It's not that big of a deal, just wondering your thoughts. There isn't really a wrong or right...right! :)
